Lost Wax Casting

Landscapes essentially inform our existence. Everything that is created, destroyed or reimagined comes from the landscape around us. As such, these terrains have been repeated, mirrored and reflected in visual culture from the beginning of civilization as we know it and has sustained all forms of life on earth.

Landscapes have not only formed my lifestyle but has also been a fascinating source of research in many different fields including art, geology, geography and history. It can trace human and natural history and is a source of sustaining life. Throughout this history, the land has been destroyed and exploited through capitalism, for the purposes of survival and for art – such as metal for jewelry.

The jewelry pieces show this paradoxical relationship between the medium they are created in and where this medium comes from. The landscape is transformed and exploited for human consumerism and status which is displayed through jewelry that has, in turn, praised the very landscape that has aided its demise. The jewelry draws on geographical imagery such as contour lines and maps and of landscapes themselves, creating small ‘wearable environments’.
